Who is Trey Gowdy?
Gowdy, born Harold Watson “Trey” Gowdy III on August 22, 1964; is an American lawyer, a former prosecutor and worked in the US House of Representatives as the South Carolina representative from 2011 until 2019. From 2018 until today, he has been a regular political contributor on FOX News. Former Congressman Gowdy attended Spartanburg High School and received his bachelor’s degree at Baylor University in 1986. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989.

Trey Gowdy married Terri Dillard in 1989, six years after having their first child Watson.
He clerked for state and federal judges before becoming a federal prosecutor in 1994. Trey was a very successful federal prosecutor. He would go on to prosecute J.Mark Allen, who was one of Americas most wanted men. this earned him the Postal Inspectors Award. Gowdy would continue to be a successful federal prosecutor for many years until 2001, when he was elected to the South Carolina District Attorneys office. Gowdy held this position until 2010.
After leaving his attorney post, he would go on to be elected as South Carolinas representative in the House of Congress, gaining nearly 40% of the vote. Gowdy would retain his seat in 2012, 2014 and 2016 congressional elections but announced in 2018 he would not seek re-election. He served as Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and was also a member of the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees.

During his time in Congress, Rep. Gowdy played a significant role in the congressional investigation of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the terrorist attacks in Benghazi.
In October 2015, Gowdy was the point man who grilled Hillary Clinton during 11 hours of questioning before the House Select Committee on Benghazi over the terrorist attack that killed four Americans in 2012, when the then-presidential candidate was secretary of state. Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, chaired that committee and the House Oversight Committee at the time.

After retiring from politics in 2019, he continues to practice law as a member of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP while lending political expertise to FOX News on occasion.

Although it seemed like Terri would have a successful career in pageantry, she decided to take her career more seriously and get into teaching. Trey and Terri Gowdy married in 1989, and since then, she has worked as a first-grade teacher. She currently works in Anderson Mill Elementary School.
