Maria Lavrova is the lovely wife of Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
Maria’s husband was born Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov on 21 March 1950. Sergei a Russian diplomat, is known for being the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations. He’s credited with helping Russian diplomacy acquire a stronger pitch and more confident voice, whilst also making it more pragmatic and less rigid.
He was raised in Moscow by an Armenian father and a Russian mother. Lavrov graduated from high school with a silver medal. He later entered the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and graduated in 1972 –one of the most prestigious and closed higher education establishments in the USSR, and Alma Mater for all those dreaming about a career in the Foreign Service.
Born into a well-off family of Moscow civil servants, Lavrov was always a good student. Decades after finishing high school, he said his physics teacher had a major influence on him, both personally and academically. He even considered pursuing a career in science, but his mother, who held a lucrative position at the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Trade, persuaded him to choose diplomacy instead.
He made his career by extinguishing international tension, but his friends say he’s also very good at lighting a fire. He was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2004.
