Meet the lovely Rebecca Byrne, she is the wife of Republican attorney and the winner in a closely-watched special runoff election for an Alabama congressional seat, Bradley Byrne. Her husband who won the Republican primary and the November 5 runoff to become the nominee for the general election in December, led Dean Young, a conservative real estate developer who likened himself to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, 52.5 percent to 47.5 percent.
The two were running to succeed six-term former GOP Rep. Jo Bonner, who resigned from the Mobile-area 1st District seat in August. Rebecca’s husband is expected to easily secure the conservative seat in the Dec. 17 general special election over nominal Democratic opposition.
But what do we know about Rebecca Dukes of Montgomery his wife for the past 32 years? She has been the Executive Director of United Way of Baldwin County since 2009, she’s been a south Alabama resident for more than 30 years which makes her the perfect link to the keep in touch with the need of her community. On her exec profile says she has been a leader of numerous civic and cultural organizations, and has served as board chair for The Mobile Public Library, Beckwith Camp and Conference Center, and the Baldwin County Trailblazers.
Prior to joining United Way, Rebecca worked as a consultant for the American Red Cross in Mobile and as the Director of Public relations for Southwest Alabama Health Systems Agency.
She met her husband at a dance in Mobile. They live in Fairhope and have four children, she is the mom of Patrick, Kathleen, Laura and Colin. Patrick, a graduate of The University of the South, works for Hargrove Engineers + Constructors in Mobile; Kathleen, a graduate of the University of Alabama, works in Huntsville; Laura, a graduate of Tulane University, works in Washington, D.C.; and Colin, a junior at Tulane University.
During an interview Rebecca reveals a great Saturday for her family would be to do something fun on the water, enjoy a good meal and watch a sunset. Rebecca has definitely known how to balance her busy family life being a mom of four and her career to serving others and her efforts have paid off! In 2005, Thomas Hospital honored Rebecca with its Women’s Best Motivator award for her contribution to arts education.
