Margaret Gakuo Kenyatta is a humble and unassuming woman who has been very instrumental in her husband’s campaign for the presidency of Kenya. She became Kenya’s First Lady after the inauguration of her husband Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta on April 9 of this year.
Although unusually shy, Margaret has stood behind her husband since the day they were married in 1989 through to the presidential election campaigns. She is the fourth First Lady of Kenya.
Margaret’s father was former Director of State Controlled Kenya Railways Corporation, Njuguna Gakuo. She attended St. Andrew’s School in Molo, and even then she was a soft spoken girl. Margaret and Kenyatta met in Mombasa and soon became best friends. They married in Nairobi in 1989 at Holy Family Basilica.
According to one of her friends, she is easy to love because of her character. “She drives herself to places and most of the time you will find her in social places enjoying a cup of coffee.”
Margaret Wanjiru Kenyatta and Uhuru have three children together: two sons named, Jaba and Jomo and one daughter, Ngina. The country seems to have fallen in love with her as her gentleness is very appealing to all who know her.
