Meet Kirsten Farage, the wife of UKIP MEP for the South East of England and leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage.
Born in Germany, Kirsten Mehr –who is UKIP’s leader second wife –tied the knot to NIgel in 1999, giving birth to two of his four children. Mrs. Farage’s is a mom to two daughters, first Victoria born in 2000 and Isabelle born in 2005. Her husband was previously married to first wife Gráinne Hayes, the couple produced two children, sons Samuel born in 1989 and Thomas born in 1991; and divorced in 1997 after 9-years of marriage.
Her hubby has built a reputation for plain-speaking and saying too much which endears him to voters and infuriates his opponents but the other side of him –breaking political rules to boast about his smoking, drinking and visiting lapdancing clubs –might have to make him explain one or two things to his lovely wife.
Kirsten has stood by his side despite several cheating rumors, little is known of Mrs Farage, few photographs exist and she is rarely seen in public, it looks like, unlike her husband she hates the spotlight.
It is one of the great contradictions of the Ukip leader that while he rails against Europeans ‘coming over here’ and taking the jobs, homes and public services of Brits that he is married to a German who could move here under the rules which he wants to tear up.
He jokes that being married to a foreigner is proof that he loves Europe. Wife and husband actually work together, Kirsten works at the European Parliament as her husband’s secretary, back in April her husband said he had employed his wife as his secretary at public expense, alleging “nobody else could do that job”
Kirsten a former bond-trader was born in Hamburg, she and Nigel met in Frankfurt in 1996, while he was travelling on business and still married. She gave up her career in the City, where she worked as an interpreter for a German bank, to look after the couple’s children.
Of the moment he met Kirsten, he once said: ‘She was a stunning government bond broker whose brisk efficiency at first sight belied her ethereal appearance.
As his secretary she ears between £25,000 and £30,000 a-year from EU funds. Her duties include writing his emails and getting him briefed and of course all the wife and mom duties since she works from home. Her hubby seems to be in the spotlight one again as he is accused of partying in Malta and spending the night with a woman; accusations he calls ‘abhorrent mischief making’ he even wrote an article titled “I help a disabled blonde woman back to the hotel – and the tabloids rejoice”
What does Kirsten thinks? Hard to know as she keeps out of the limelight which is very much OK with her husband.
