Matthew Hoffman was once married to Democrat Rep. Katie Porter -who recently made headlines due to her costume.
Matthew’s ex-wife dressed up as Batgirl and critics accused her of making a mockery of Congress. 45-year-old Porter is the Democratic representative for Orange County, California. Porter, a member of the House Financial Services Committee used to be a married woman.
Porter who grew up on a farm in Iowa, went to Yale and Harvard, and decided she would pursue teaching and bankruptcy law. Since she was elected in the 2018 midterms, she’s shown how effective she can be. She’s gained a reputation with her no-nonsense questioning of bank chief executives, elected officials, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The professor-turned-congresswoman used to be a married woman, she and estranged husband Matthew Hoffman shares three children together Luke, Paul and Betsy. However the couple is no longer together.
She revealed during her campaign for congress that during her marriage to Hoffman she was a victim of physical and emotional abuse. They divorced in 2013 and Porter has custody of their children.
At one point during an argument, Matthew Hoffman punched Katie, shoved their one-year-old daughter across the kitchen, threatened to kill himself, and hurled profane insults at her family. As a result, Matthew Hoffman spent a few days behind bars for domestic battery.
According to the Huffpost, Hoffman then agreed to all of Porter’s demands: anger management counseling, supervised visitation, and parental coaching. He now sees the children four times a year.
