Lauren Anne Birchfield is the loving and supportive wife of Massachusetts representative Joe Kennedy –who’s been serving the 4th congregational district since 2013.
Lauren’s hubby is already a man to watch since he bears the Kennedy last name and family’s good looks. Well, the lawyer and politician can’t seem to help it. Joseph P. Kennedy III and his twin brother, Matthew Rauch Kennedy –were born in Boston in 1980. Following his graduation from Stanford University, he served in the Peace Corps.
Armed with a Harvard law degree, Kennedy then worked as an assistant district attorney in Massachusetts. He resigned in January 2012 to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Massachusetts’ fourth district, ultimately winning the seat.
With a successful career at only 37-years-old, his wife, Lauren Anne Birchfield, is equally impressive in her field. Meet her below in her top facts.
#1: She is a California native
Lauren Anne Birchfield was born September 21, 1984, in Michigan to Marta M. Birchfield and Rev. James T. Birchfield. Her parents grew up in Arbor, Michigan, and were high school sweethearts after falling in love as seniors. They both attended the same university at Michigan State.
#2: Lauren Anne Birchfield Early Life
The family moved to Southern California when Lauren was still at a very young age. Reverend James Birchfield, Lauren’s father, was born in 1956 in Illinois. He had graduated from Michigan State University in 1979, and when Lauren was about five years old, James received Christ as his savior. In 1992, he would leave his advertising agency position to serve full time at the church ministry in Bel Air Presbyterian Church, LA.
James would earn a Master’s degree in Divinity before accepting a role at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Newport, in 1996 as a youth pastor.
At the time, Lauren would be about 12 years old.
Before having her two daughters, Lauren’s mother worked as a certified public accountant. Her mother also reduced her workload to better care for her family and retired to launch our own consultancy firm. Lauren Anne Kennedy has a sister by the name of Emily Shakibnia, a San Francisco resident.
The sisters may have accompanied her parents during their many missions all over the world, in countries such as Uganda, Malawi, and Romania. Lauren Anne Birchfield’s Family remains committed to their Christian values and service to the community.
#3: She is well educated
Lauren graduated from UCLA and attended Harvard Law School.
#4: She met Joe Kennedy as a student
Lauren Anne Birchfield and Joe Kennedy met while attending Harvard, where they were both law students. They were both attending a contracts law class when they met.
During an interview, she expressed that having grown up in Southern California, she knew the Kennedy family well but was glad to know Joe in his own right. Growing up in a politically conservative family, her upbringing was not politically centered compared to Joe’s.
Her parents attended the same university. Could this be a rather convenient coincidence?
The couple has maintained a very loving relationship, and they’re happy to share pictures of family moments and them with yeah followers on social media.

#5: She has an impressive resume
Lauren co-founded the after-school education and outreach program in Jamaica Plain. She worked at NARAL Pro-Choice America in Washington D.C. аѕ a policy representative. She is currently a senior health policy counsel at the National Partnership for Women & Families and was previously the senior health policy and government affairs adviser for Boston Medical Center.
#6: She is a mother of two children
Following the couple’s 2012 nuptials, Lauren gave birth to two children, daughter Eleanor “Ellie” Kennedy, born December 29, 2015, and a son, James Matthew Kennedy, born December 20, 2017.
John Kennedy posted this adorable photo of their two children during the 4th of July celebrations 2021. Eleanor Kennedy will be turning six in 2021.
Happy Birthday America!

#7: Joe Kennedy III wedding was in a picturesque seaside church
Laurens’s father officiated the wedding at the Corona Del Mar Community Congregational Church, a stunning church set by the seaside. The couple celebrated their union in an event that was well attended by their friends and family. They had announced their engagement in January 2012.
There was no word of where the couple celebrated their post-union ceremony. The engagement ring similarly did not make it to the limelight, and it’s not clear how much Joe Kennedy III spent. It must have been a handy sum as he is reportedly worth over $43 million.
#8: She’s a fighter, a fighter for all that’s right
Lauren’s Twitter often lights up with her many Tweets championing various causes and groups.
Recently, she called out for a policy supporting mother athletes with maternity leave, physical therapy, and child care.
Her activism caught the eye of Elizabeth Warren, who taught both husband and wife in Harvard, but ended up supporting Ed Markey in the 2020 Massachusetts Senate’s primary.
She noted that Lauren was fiercely smart and determined, going after what she wanted. The Harvard-educated lawyer has championed children’s causes for over a decade.
She had to face the same challenges working mothers have to go through when they have children, including the high cost of child care. She went on to co-found Neighborhood Villages, a non-profit but advocates for early childhood end care policy reforms.
The organization envisions a future where all parents can access affordable and high-quality early care. She even extended her advocacy efforts to make sure that her husband’s congressional office was family-friendly.
As a result, his office adopted the policy of giving new parents three months of paid leave. She continues running Neighborhood Villages along with Sarah Muncey, a teacher she met as a fellow mother of a newborn who also shared the same frustrations.
I’m calling out for policy supporting mother-athletes with:
1) maternity leave
2) physical therapy
3) childcare— Angela Ruggiero (@AngelaRuggiero) August 6, 2021
