Cynthia Nixon, one of the beloved actresses from Sex and the City has announced her campaign to run against Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The 51-year-old Hollywood star said on Twitter she is a faithful resident of New York and wouldn’t want to live somewhere else, however ‘something has to change.’
Nixon has been around the showbiz for decades and though her success having won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Rabbit Hole, the 2008 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for An Inconvenient Truth, and the 2017 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Little Foxes –is undeniable, will she have the same success as a politician? #1 She’s played women in politics
Nixon is best known for playing lawyer Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City. She also appeared in the Sex and the City films and the 2005 feature Little Manhattan. In addition, she earned a recurring role as Senator Carly Armiston on the Amazon series Alpha House in 2013.
#2 She is openly gay
She began a relationship with Christine Marinoni in 2004, and they welcomed a son in 2011. The couple married in 2012.
#3 She used to like men
Nixon is also the mother of two children, daughter Samantha and son, Charles –with her former boyfriend Danny Mozes.
#4 Her partner is an LGBTQ advocate
Christine Marinoni is an LGBTQ advocate who worked for New York Mayor Bill de Blasio until she resigned a month ago.

In her campaign video among other things, she said “I’m a proud public school graduate, and a prouder public school parents. I was given chances I just don’t see most of New York’s kids today. Our leaders are letting us down”
#6 Her mother is a former actress
Nixon was born April 9, 1966; the only child of Anne Elizabeth and Walter Nixon. Her mother, a TV executive and writer who had been an actress herself, guided her toward acting, Nixon tells the Independent: “I had a good stage mom.” She made her professional debut when she was only 12. Shortly afterwards, she appeared alongside Tatum O’Neal and Matt Dillon in Little Darlings.
#7 She is a cancer survivor
Cynthia Nixon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. Her battle with breast cancer has been well documented and since then, she’s become a breast cancer activist.
#8 She was shy as a child
During an interview, she stated “As a child, a teenager and a young person, I was very much internalised,” I was a person who didn’t feel extroverted,” “When I was a kid, I really identified with that painful shyness.”
#9 She felt affinity for Emily Dickinson
In 2016, Nixon played the American poet in “A Quiet Passion” –and said she felt an affinity due to her shyness. She also described Dickson as an early feminist.
#10 She faces an uphill battle
A poll showed Governor Cuomo is currently holding a commanding lead of 66 percent to 19 percent over her among Democratic voters.
